Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Compensation from city for Easement

I've been in my house for 7 years. The City wants me to sign an "Easement for Sewer" which will require 25 ft of my back yard for the sewer. I--name removed--not opposed to the easement but I would like to be compensated fairly for the use of my property. Am I entitled to compensation for an easement? If so, how do I determine the fair market value of the strip of property?

Which City? It will make a diff. on how you are treated in the process. If you don't want to "give" them the Sewer Easement (SE), make them condemn it.

Recently I finished a small case where Gwinnett County started the SE offer off at $7,500. When all was said and done and we forced the condemnation, the judgment was for $87,500.

However, each land case is very fact intensive.

Good luck
