Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

contractor problem

I have a contractor who i paid to build my house. I have now discover that I have a lein on my house for the concrete, which I paid him for, but he did not pay the supplier. The lein is filed against my property, in my name and the contractors name. I was not notified of the lein. The amount of the lein is $13,000. Is this a criminal issue or one for the magistrate courts? The contractor does not have any personal assets that I could claim. Help?

Re: contractor problem

You will want to gather all of your closing documents together (if you had a closing), along with every shred of evidence that shows the agreement with the contractor, etc. At minimum, pay for a consultation for an attorney to evaluate the aforementioned information and advise you what your best options are.
