Earnest Money Contract

i signed a contract to purchase a property and left an earnest money deposit. i was unable to get a mortgage and now the seller doesn't want to return my $2000 deposit. i can fax or email a copy of the agreement i signed i didn't have a lawyer read it over but my understanding was if i couldn't obtain the mortgage i would get back my money.

You left out the most important detail -what does the contract say about getting your money back? You really need to read and understand the contract. Perhaps you can re-post with that information.
