my fathers septic tank went bad the plumber come out and said it needed new fill lines the county said the soil wouldnt hold the lines he needed a new system that coast 15 to 20 thousand dollars is there a law against this can he be grandfatered in the house is 35 years old

Law against what? Building codes? Of course not. In addition, "grandfathered in" generally refers to existing conditions and structures when codes, ordinances and laws are passed. When these items need to be replaced, they generally must meet current code. Otherwise, no one here knows the local codes, or other facts.

Obviously, old houses need repairs, sometimes expensive, and they must meet building codes.

What he does want to do, with a repair that expensive, is to get at least three or more quotes from reputable licensed plumbers.
