Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I own a flood damaged home and land. The insurance money was used to pay the mortgage in Full. I can not seem to sell the land (house is useless) and just want to get rid of the burden. Can i give the keys to the county and just be done with this?

Assuming you have paid the mortgage in full, you own fee simple title in your name alone, and there no other outstanding liens or encumbrances, you may do whatever you like with the land within the law. The County may be happy to take the property as a gift or you could donate it to charity. I would recommend hiring an attorney to prepare and file the appropriate paper work. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. Best of luck.*******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client relationship.*******

Why would you do that? Handing the keys to someone does not change title or relieve you of responsibility. Find a charity that will take it, and take the tax deduction.

You can't "give the keys" to anyone unless they want it. Some local governments might be interested in it and some might not. Have you asked them?
