Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

homeowner assiociation fees/dues

I purchased a house and closed it on Jan.13,2007, that day I paid $300.00 initial fee to the Assiciation. I am informed today that yearly dues of $150.00 are due on Jan.1 and that I am 60 days past due. They threaten a lein if not paid by March1. I don't feel that I owe another fee. I did not own the house unon Jan.1 however I did pay $300.00. Can you guide me? Thank you

Re: homeowner assiociation fees/dues

Start with the paperwork and contracts. We have no idea what they say, how much dues are, what your initial $300 fee was for, etc., and you did not provide any of that information. What you "feel" is due is not relevent. What you agreed to pay by purchasing the house (thereby likely agreeing to the HOA rules and regulations) is the question.
