Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

intruder cat bite

The cat of a neighbor's house guest came into our house through an open door to attack our pet. The intruding cat bit the hand and arm of my boyfriend when he attempted to remove the cat from our home. The infectious bites resulted in a surgical procedure, a two day hospital stay, and outpatient physical therapy. Hospital bills are in excess of $9,000 and two days of lost wages amount to $3,000. Both my boyfriend and our neighbor( not her guest) have home owner's insurance and medical coverage. The guest has no income and no insurance. Who is responsible for medical bills? Is there any way to recover lost wages?

Re: intruder cat bite

Interesting question. It would seem that the "neighbor's house guest" would be ultimately financially responsible for it all. [Sorry he or she has no $ and is judgment proof.] If the cat was known to be dangerous to your neighbor (probably a long shot) than maybe you could pin some of it on your neighbor. I am a GA lawyer. You indicate this is a TN question. You need a TN lawyer in the county in which this occured. Check the tort law in TN under "dog bite law." Hugh Wood
