Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
Landlord Problem
Okay here is my story:
I broke my 12 month lease (month early) because my landlord never fixed any repairs and hated it when I called him to do so. I called him about a massive problem w/ the bathroom ceiling leaking from upstairs toilet & Sewage through the ceiling (hazardous and unhealthy). After numerous talks/messages w/ his repair guy and telling him about it, 4 weeks no word, I than finally had a health inspector see it and sent a certified letter to repair.. I had also gotten sick from this problem. Not being able to cope or have any response from this I moved out.
I moved out 1 1/2 month early and was just, unfortunately, content on him keeping my $700 deposit now he called me after I moved out and called the Police on me for Vandalism (there is no vandalism I have proof) and threatening to sue me etc...
What rights do I have seeing how I was getting sick from bathroom leaking and just couldn--name removed--stand it? This was in Athens, GA
Also can I be sued out of state? What if he can--name removed--find me to summons me?

Re: Landlord Problem
He can sue you, but if you are now out of GA, he must sue you wherever you live. And, you can countercliam, in your own backyard, for whatever damages you sustained because of your illness. You might also consider calling the police as a pre-emptive strike to explain that you have nothing to hide about his allegation of vandalism.
