I am in the mist of a situation that consist of a tenet that has skipped out on me without prior notification. Now I don't know what I'm going to do about my mortgage payments. I don't know how to contact the couple and neither does their real estate agent. Are they liable for any type of payments other than the forfeiture of their downpayment?

This happens quite often for inexperienced landlords. That is why you get a security deposit and the first month's rent when they sign a lease. In addition, you do a credit check. Unfortunately, if you can't find them it's hard to sue them, then even if you do, it may be hard to collect. You can probably keep their security deposit--I assume that's what you mean when you say down payment (down payments are for purchases). If they are renting month by month they would be liable for at least one month generally. If you had a leasethey would potentially be liable for the entire lease term.
