Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
Lease termination
I renewed my lease and have 5 months remaining on the renewal. The apartment complex was bought out by another company. The new company is enforcing rules that were not previously enforced. Due to the change in management is there any way to terminate the lease early without losing my deposit, or giving the 60 day notice plus 1 month rent plus pay back any concession. I lived there for 1 1/2 years under one set of rules and am now under another. What recourse do I have?

Re: Lease termination
Without looking at your lease, I can say that if they breach the terms of the lease, you will probably have the right to terminate the lease without a penalty. But it depends on the terms of the lease.

Re: Lease termination
A change in ownership likely will not affect your lease. If the rules you reference conflict with your lease, you may raise this issue to the management. Generally, complexes make and enforce property rules and they may change from time to time. Again, if they do anything that conflicts with your lease, bring it up to them.
