can a life estate deed be broken by the person who made it?

Only for the same reasons any other deed could be set aside by a court. Someone who grants a life estate in his property has no special rights in that regard.

If you feel you have grounds to void the deed, consult an attorney.

If the wording of the deed is unconditional, then it cannot be revoked, just like any other deed.
