Not married and dividing of property

As a inheritance for my ex fiance his grandfather built him and his brother a home. While trying to buy the home my ex wasn't able to because for bad credit. I decided to buy the house and put him as a secondary. We have now broken off the engagment and I am no longer living in the house. I want my portion of what I put into the house such as equity and the down payment I put down. I don't want him to have to sell the house because of the meaning behind it, but he want's to make things difficult.
