Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Paid Property Taxes... Never Got Paid Back

I paid the property taxes for a friend who could not afford it at the time. Unfortunately, only a verbal contract existed regarding repayment. I have receipts from the tax office with my name and cancelled check indicating that I paid the 2006 taxes. The tax records also list me as the payor. Can I sue this individual or put a lien on thier property ???

You might want to try to take your neighbor to small claims court if the debt is less that $15,000. If you obtain a judgment and your friend does not pay the amount owed, then you could garnish, levy and/or lien.
