Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Price Gouging

Hi, my landord charges a 10% late charge of 120.00 after the 5th and a 20% late charge of 240.00 after the 10th. My rent is 1200.00, is this legal? We singed the lease because we had already moved in. We moved in on the 18th of the month and signed the lease on the 23rd and yet our rent is due on the 1st of the month, is this legal?

Re: Price Gouging

Based on your facts, yes. The rental amount was agreed by you in the lease. However, if you were on the property for only a portion of a month, your rent should be pro-rated.
