Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

property after death

My mother is in a battle over the property my great cousin left after her death nearly 8 years ago. The deed and property taxes are in my mother's name and she has been paying then since the time of my cousin's death. However, my mother is not next of kin, so the estate with to my cousin's next of kin. What should my mother do?

Your mother should seek a qualified attorney to determine what legal options might be available to her. My experience includes resolving probate and property dispute issues. Ask your mother to call me if she would like to discuss the information above.

Your post is far from clear, but obviously there is a "battle." You don't say how the property was titled to your mother, why others are complaining about it, or any other relevant facts. Get some referrals from lawyers you know or others in her area, or the area in which the property is located, for a lawyer who handles estate matters as a PRIMARY part of their practice. Preferably, it will be someone who is in the county in which the property is located, as knowing their way around the local probate court, if it comes to that after 8 years, is an important benefit.
