Property with pond rights

I purchased a house that is on a pond. My neighbor owns all of the property around the pond except my lot. My neighbor says I have no right to the middle of the pond only 25ft in front of my lot. If that is the case does he only have rights to 25ft in front of his lots? Who has rights to the middle of the pond?

You omit on important detail - who owns the pond (i.e, the land under it).
