Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
Property Tax Lien Sale
The taxes on my home were sold at a county tax lien sale. I had a refinance 6 yrs ago to do some home improvements. The mortgage payment was set up to pay my taxes out of my mortgage. Last year I was notified by the county that my property taxes were delinquent, so I notified the bank. The bank assured me that they were paying the taxes. I was then notified that the taxes were going to be sold at a county tax sale. I called the bank and was assured that they would fix the problem; they didn't. The taxes were sold and I didn't have the money to redeem them. Subsequently after the sale I discovered the error, in my closing documents, the property description and lot number were incorrect. So the bank was paying the taxes, but to the wrong lot. The bank has stated that they would not take responsibility for the mistake and they have not redeemed the property. I am trying to get the money to redeem the property, but is there any legal course for me to take?

Re: Property Tax Lien Sale
I am sorry to hear about your situation-- it sounds like a real mess.
If you want to redeem your property, time is running out. You have 1 year from the date of the tax sale to redeem it.
However, judging by what you have stated, I think you might have a few possible causes of action against various parties. Feel free to e-mail me or call me so we can discuss your options.
