Does Purchase agreement = Lease Assignment

I sold a business. The purchase agreement states ''buyer agrees to an an assignment of the lease and to make lease payments as stipulated in the current lease agreement between tenant and landlord''. The buyer stopped making lease payments. Consequently, landlord is suing me for money owed on leased. Isnt't the lease assigned to someone else?

Unless your landlord agreed to the assignment in writing and released you from obligation in writing, you remain liable.
