My mom lent my brother $53K in cash (bank transfer) to purchase a home in Nov 2005. The money was supposed to be returned in a few weeks once the house closed. (This loan is not in writing). Now he is selling the home, possbile at a reduced price and he wans my mom to ''share'' his loss. Does she have any legal recourse? Can she put a lein on the house?

Your mom's argument is that it was a loan. However, your brother may contend it was a gift. The outcome is going to depend on a lot more facts than you have stated. Consult with a local attorney.
