i have signed a contract with a seller to build a house and have written them two checks. 1 for good faith and land reservation and 1 for upgrades. This money suppose to be returned at closing. I've changed my decision to buy the house for personal reasons and health . Can I viod the contract and get my money back ?

The place to look for what you can and cannot do is usually found in the contract. Does it have a provision for cancellation that allows you to get your money back? Most probably do not. Otherwise, you state no facts from which to conclude that you could walk away from (presumably) a binding contract with no penalty. You can see a lawyer about your potential liability, if any.
