Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Relinquish rights to property

I co-signed for a friend on a house, three years ago. She resides in Georgia. I recently found out she has not been paying on time which has really affected my credit rating/score. Her credit is awful and with her one payment behind each month is making my credit awful also. Is there anything I can do to get my name off the house? What are my options? Please help me.

Re: Relinquish rights to property

The only things you can do are either buy her out and pay off the mortgage or refinance, which is probably not a good option. Consult with a local real estate attorney. As long as your name is on the debt, you are responsible.
