Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Rent reimbursement after foreclosure

I paid rent for the month of May 5 days before receiving a letter saying that the house I was renting had been foreclosed and I needed to be out immediately. I called the real estate company I had been renting from and they told me they had already deposited the rent and there was nothing they could do to give it back to me. Is this legal? I'm in the state of GA and from what I can tell I'm at least entitled to hound them about my security deposit.

Re: Rent reimbursement after foreclosure

Your facts are not complete. You mention rent for the month of May, but this is May 27. You don't say whether you moved or stayed and are still there (in which case you probably got what you paid for). Then you just mention a security deposit, but no details about that. You don't mention the term of the lease but you might be entitled to some damages and perhaps your deposit, but a foreclosure means the owners probably don't have much money to pay you.
