How to get rid of Homeowner Association

The community has become very unhappy w/ the association. They let the pool close 2 yrs ago and do little other than collect dues, $300 anually. Many have stopped paying but, liens are placed upon sale. Community is approx 18 yrs old. Association was not here when I bought, it was started 3yrs later against my wishes. What are our rights and do we have a chance of dissolving the association. I want to sell soon, as others have, and do not want to pay for what I didn't receive.

You, as a homeowner, are a member of the association. You need to get a copy of the covenants that were in place when you bought the house. Those will determine your rights. If you are unhappy with the Board I suggest that you get on the Board or get a representative on the Board. Get with the neighbors who feel the same way you do. Also, ask the Board for their budget and to see their books. This might help you see where the money is going and what is happening there.
