Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Statue of Limitations in GA

My mother in law got a second mortgage on her house in 1997. The 2nd mortgage comp. over apprasied her house. When she had to move in 1998, she couldn't sell her home b/c of the over apprasied second mortgage, so she had to walk away from it. She tried to contact 2nd mortgage company to make arragements for payment, they wouldn't let her. She didn't hear anything until mid 2004, when they called and threated her to make payments. She paid them 50.00 and in 2004 meet with a laywer who wrote the company a letter to stop harrasing her b/c they were past statue of limitations. Now the United Mortgage and Loan collector lawyers are sending her certified letters. My question is is there a statue of limitations for mortgages in GA, if so is her paying the 50.00 in 2004 make it null?

Re: Statue of Limitations in GA

I'm not sure I understand all the facts of the situation. If you have confidence in the lawyer she met with in 2004, I would consult with him/her. If not, consult with another attorney.
