Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I have a tree on my property that I am considering removing. Several large branches and part of the crown overhang my neighbors property although the trunk of the tree is 100% well into my property. The neighbor opposes the removal and claims "rights" to the shade that the tree provides over their property and that the overhanging branches "belong to them", etc. Is this an accurate claim and do I really need their permission to remove a tree that is mine?
