Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

unlawful charges in back rent

on july 26, 2002 i purchased a trailer from a friend of mine, that was on a lot in a mobile home park, and applied , signed and leased said lot on aug. 1 2002 with no prior agreement or arrangemant to pay the rental fees for said lot for months of june and july. but now my landlord is now trying to hold me legally and financially responsible, for the back rent, and threating eviction if back amount is not paid.

am i legally or financilly responsible for back rent due if or since no prior agreement was made and that lease was signed after the date back rent was due .

Re: unlawful charges in back rent

My first thought is that no, you are not responsible for the back rent. However, since it sounds like the landlord may well file a dispossessory against you, I would advise you to go ahead and consult with a local attorney because, if nothing else, your lease needs to be carefully read. If the landlord does file a baseless dispossessory, you may have a case for abuse of process.
