Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
verbal agreement/money upfront
Weagreed to purchase some land with a used trailor on it in the mountains. we did not sign a contract this was verbal,in good faith,he asked for 400.00 deposit on the land, and when we finally picked the used trailor out he asked for another 1000.00 so he could move it. he promised new carpet, and he would redo the inside before we moved in, he only done the carpet, he could not get it permitted until now. For 2 weeks we have told him that we wanted our money back, after avoiding us, he finally called, he only wants to give us the 400.00 back,he said that he can keep the 1000.00 for the carpet. can he legally do this the checks were cashed and deposited into his account but no contract or agreement was signed. help please.

Re: verbal agreement/money upfront
Depends on what was agreed to specifically. Any agreement with regard to the purchase of real property would have to be in writing to be enforceable.
