Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
My wife and I are both retired. We have social security and retirement income only. We are at the end of a chapter 13 bankruptcy and are waiting for discharge papers. We have no credit card debt. We have a mortgage of $157,000.00 on our home with very little equity. WE would like to move but know we will have to rent as we will be unable to get a loan to purchase a home. My question is as follows: What are the legal ramifications of walking away from a mortgage? Can they come after your retirement income?
