There is absolutely no way to predict how long it will take to receive any compensation by way of settlement. Have you already filed a claim with the EEOC? Have you obtained a "right to sue" letter? Have you already engaged in settlement discussions?

There is no pat answer to your questions. Sometimes they never settle and you have to go to trial. After the EEOC phase, you will receive a right to sue letter. This process can take up to 6 months, but if EEOC is not looking to be helpful, there are ways to shorten the process and get the "right to sue letter" early. Once sued, the defendant has 20 days to file an answer, then the case enters what is called the "discovery" phase which can take at least 4 months before there is even a possibility of a trial. Some employers have an incentive to settle quick; others see little incentive and may fight to the finish. But, in my experience, from the time the EEOC charge is filed, it can take anywhere from a few days, to 2 years for the typical employer to show a real interest in settlement.
