My mother in law has custody of my 3 children. All three have been living with me for the past two years. I claimed all three children on my income taxes this year and already recieved a refund. My mother in law filed her taxes claiming all three children knowing that I had already done so, and has already recieved her refund from the IRS. When I filed my taxes I wasnt asked if I had custody of my kids, only if they resided with me. They have spent less than 10 nights away from my home all year. Could someone please tell me what to expect from the IRS? I recieved approximately $1700.00 and she recieved approximately $6000.00.
