I owe the IRS a great deal of money, and have been paying on it on time every month for two years. I will be getting married in April 2010. Will my husband then become liable for my tax debt??? Does my bad credit affect him if we do not purchase anything together??

While he does not automatically become liable, there are many things he might do that could cause his funds to be applied towards your debt. He might find it a good idea to meet with a lawyer before the marriage so as to not make those steps.
