Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Was issued a citation for georgia code 40-6-20. I was in an unfamiliar area and the left lane that I was in turned into a left turn lane and I was trying to follow a GPS that didn't not say that and I needed to go straight. So when the light turned green I turned on my right blinker and merged over (a car let me over) and the officer pulled me over and wrote on the citation "in LT turn lane, across buford, did not turn. The ticket is $215. I do not feel that I should have to pay for that, I was in an unfamiliar area and did not want to get lost. I plan to attend court for it

Being in an unfamiliar area and not wanting to get lost is not going to be an excuse for not following traffic laws and signs. It may very well irritate a Judge to try to bring up an excuse that is obviously wrong. It may or may not work as a plea for mercy.
