Speeding Ticket
Over Labor Day weekend, I recieved a speeding ticket for doing 77 in a 55 mph zone. I believed that I was in a 65 mph zone. I am forty three years old and this is my first ticket. I plan on going to court as I am concerned about the points this will put on my record and how it will impact my insurance rates. How should I plead?

If you have a clean record, you can probably easily have the amount over reduced to 69 mph. This will preclude any points being added to your license and any increase to your insurance rates. You will have to pay a fine with the court, though. Arguing that they have the wrong speed limit should only be done if you can affirmatively prove the mistake. If so, you will need to plead not guilty and use it as a defense.
