Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Speeding - Ticket - Plea Bargain?

I received a speeding ticket for 80mph in a 55mph zone on I-285. The officer used a laser speed detector. I would like to get the infraction reduced to something that won't increase my insurance costs or result in points on my license. I have not had a ticket in Georgia in over 7 years. Is it possible to request a non-moving violation? If so, what is the process for doing this without having to admit guilt?

Re: Speeding - Ticket - Plea Bargain?

If you have an opportunity to discuss your case with a solicitor you may be able to negotiate a plea. Some courts will allow a defendant to plead to a "non-points" charge such as "too fast for conditions" which does not carry any points in the event of a conviction. If you are successful in getting the speed reduced to less than 14mph over the speed limit there is the liklihood that the court won't report it at all. You will have to pay a fine and you will probably have to plead guilty, but there wouldn't be any points assessed on your record and the court might not even send it to the Dept of Driver Services!
