Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Suspended License Arrested, HELP!

A fried was given a court date because of an expired tag. He did not make the date and police showed up at his house 2 months later. He was not there. The next day, he and his father went to court and appeared before a judge who told him that he was to pay the fines and the judge would waive the warrant as well as the suspension that was on his license. Last night he was pulled over for having his license plate light out and was handcuffed and taken to jail for having a suspended license. He was never read his rights. He was bonded out for $720. He was given 2 tickets, one for the burnt out light and the other for driving with suspended license. He is trying to move his court date up, but they tell him that he has to wait 10 days to do anyting. This boy needs to go back and forth to work, etc., and has been told he cannot until he gets this straightened out.

What should we do????

Re: Suspended License Arrested, HELP!

You have the option of hiring an attorney or doing the case yourself. I strongly recommend hiring an attorney because often when my past clients have tried to fix these types of problems, they ended up in worse situations than if they had hired an attorney from the beginning. For certain types of violations and for non-appearances, the suspension of the driver's license may be automatic. It is always best to make sure the Department of Motor Vehicle has the updated and correct information. The license also must be reinstated by paying a small fee. This is general information; therefore, it is best if you contact an attorney and provide further details for this situation.
