Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Got ticket for improper u turn at railroad crossing. I made the turn and safe to do so at time. There are no traffic signs stating you should not make a u turn. Is it illegal to make a u turn a railroad crossing for the state of Ga

Yes. The ONLY place you can make a U-turn is at a divided highway at an intersection (assuming there are not signings prohibiting left turns or u-turns) or at a place marked to make u-turns.

Check out the following (especially section (3) ... the catch-all prohibition (where unsafe to do so or where it will interfere with other traffic):

40-6-121. U-turns, when prohibited

No vehicle shall be turned so as to proceed in the opposite direction:

(1) Upon any curve;

(2) Upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of another vehicle approaching from either direction;

(3) Where such turn cannot be made in safety and without interfering with other traffic; or

(4) Where a prohibition is posted.
