How much does a codicil to an existing will cost in the state of Georgia? And thanks for the info and the advice provided in my previous question.

Each lawyer has their own fee structure based on their experience. A codicil can be simple or complicated, and sometimes is not the best solution.

Generally codicils are a bad idea, as two documents rather than one have to be probated and reconciled. Usually a new will is smarter, and the cost of that and a codicil will be about the same. As for a specific cost you'd have to call me at to details to get a specific quote. 404-768-3509

I agree with Attorney Ashman for the most part. Depending on the changes you wish to make, doing a codicil may make no sense - with the advent of word processors/personal computers, its not much trouble for me or any other lawyer to just do a new will. And codicils have to be witnessed and notarized just the same as for wills as I noted.

However, if you are making a very minor change (like changing the executor to be B instead of A), then a codicil may work just fine.

As my colleagues noted, fees will vary from attorney to attorney depending on what you need done. If cost is a concern, then it does not hurt to shop around and get quotes. But this is really not the forum to do it.

You may also want personal in-office service that only local counsel can provide. If that is the case, I am sure that any of my colleagues here would be glad to assist. If that is less important, then please email me the details of what you need, and I may be able to give you a ballpark figure. You can reach me at [email protected].
