After death credit debts.

My mother had no will. Are we as her children required to pay he debts. on her credit cards?

No, that's a risk the credit card companies took. Hope she had big balances and enjoyed every minute of it.

If your mother owned property, her creditors can go after that property. So if you children have possession of items that belonged to her at her death, the credit card companies might come after you to get those items.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to send the credit card company a short letter saying that your mother died, and otherwise keep quiet, and they may go away.

If your mother didn't own anything of value when she died, then you're home free - see Mr. Grissom's answer.

The simple but incomplete answer is "no."

However, if she left assets, her estate needs to be probated, and creditors will be paid first, before heirs.
