Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

death of my son

My son just died on March 15th. He lived with his new 5 month old baby and fiance'. His last check is needed by her really bad, but she is not able to cash it because they were not married. Is there a legal way around it without going through an attorney. Can I cash it as a parent? This for the state of Georgia, if it matters. It wouldn't even be worth getting an attorney. The check is just nearly $400.00.
