There is no registry for insurance policies. All I can tell you is that if the money from the insurance policy is not paid out the insurers are supposed to turn over the money to the state treasurer of the state where the person lived at the time of his or her death. You can find links to all the state treasurers at www.unclaimed.org. You can also try www.missingmoney.com.

It matters not where you are. What matters is where the person who had the policy lived at the time of his death. But it sounds like you do not even know if the person had a policy. I also have to question why you are only asking now after 30 years. I also don't know the circumstances of the person's death. Who died? When? Did the person have a spouse alive at the time of death? Children? Was an estate probated for the person? If so, who was the personal representative? Who are you in connection to the dead person and would you have stood to benefit? If an estate was probated did you review the court file to see what assets were listed on the inventory and was there any mention of life insurance proceeds being paid to the estate?
