Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia
Does inheritance have to be spent on cruise?
Will reads ''It is my desire that Glenna get the family members together for a Memorial Cruise to celebrate my life. For this reunion, I am leaving each of the following a sum of money. This should cover expenses. $5,000.''
I don't not get along with these family members and cannot take off from work without loosing my job. My Aunt threatens to forfiet my inheritance if I don't make the trip. Is this leagal considering it was not a demand or condition but ''desired'' it be used for this purpose? No trip was pre payed or ticket purchased. Do I have the right to simply calim the $5,000 and memorilize my grandmother in private?

You should have an attorney in the county where the Will is going to be probated to have the entire Will reviwed, but I don't think you forfeit anything by not going on the cruise. In fact, depending on the exact wording, you may be able to do whatever you wish with the $5,000.00

No one could answer this question without a review of the whole will. You need to see a lawyer. It is at least possible that you have options.
Bear in mind that if there is a dispute over this, your legal costs could exceed your inheritance, so if you expect a legal battle, even if you have a strong case, you need to factor that possible cost in.
