How long can a estate be held in litigation in georgia ?

As long as it takes to resolve the case (there is no limit). Since you say there is litigation, obviously you would have hired a lawyer, and your lawyer is best equipped to answer how long your case may take and to push it to conclusion. No one here will know the details like he does, so call the person you hired and paid to advise you.
If there is litigation and you have a lawyer, it is unethical for me or any other attorney to interfere and you should speak to your attorney. To the extent that you are a beneficiary and are not involved in the litigation, all you can do is wait. There are no time limits and I do not know what kind of litigation this involves, whether it is a will challenge or whether it is a wrongful death case or something different. It also depends on the size and complexity of the estate and how busy the court system is. The court system moves at its own pace and, from the perspective of thhe litigants is painfully slow.
If you are familiar with Charles Dickens' novel, Bleak House, he discusses a famous fictional case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce. The case went on and on for years until it finally was over because the estate ran out of money. While this is a fictional case that over-exaggerates, there is still a kernel of truth here. Hopefully, your case will be satisfactorily resolved without running out of money.
