Can the family members probate the will with no legal assistance?

Sure, you can. However, the Probate Court is going to expect you to know what you are doing. You will acting as your own attorney and will be expected to know the rules of procedure, evidence, etc. that actual lawyers know. While you can, it is extremely foolish as mistakes can be either costly to fix or unfixable.

If an estate is simple, you can hold down costs by having a lawyer do parts of the case for you but you walk it through. This may only involve a few hundred dollars and is far smarter than total "do it yourself." By using an attorney to coach you, you will save money but still get needed expertise.
