Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Probate a will

My mother has poa for my grandmother. I was told by my grandmother that I was sole benificiary of an insurance policy and also in her will. My grandmother passed away a month ago. my mother has not said anything about my grandmothers will or anything else. She does not approve of my resent marriage. Is it possible for her to keep these matters from me and when a will is probated is it made known to the public via public records. How does all that work?

Re: Probate a will

If there are significant assets you need to have ALREADY hired a lawyer, who can make appropriate inquiry and filings about the estate.

First, you need to know that the POA expired upon your grandmother's death.

If your mother is "pretending" that there is no Will, you can apply to the Probate Court to be appointed as Administrator of the estate. Then, you can subpoena the Will.

As to life insurance, that has nothing to do with either the POA or the Will (or lack of such). If you can find out who the insurance company is, contact them directly and they will send you paperwork to fill out. At any rate, you need the ASAP consult with a local attorney.
