Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Sister expired

My sister recently expired with no will. My mother has been named administrator of her estate. Sister had credit card debts over $23,000 and hospital debts over $24,000, while still owing $42,000 on her house. She has liquid assets of around $7,000. What happens next since there is not enough cash to pay off debts? People have told me that the creditors will write off the debts, but creditors continue to send letters to us asking for payment, so I'm not so sure about that advice. Please help. Thanks.

Re: Sister expired

Get a lawyer. What "people" have told you is wrong.

In all likelihood, the house will have to be sold to pay off creditors. A good lawyer may be able to help negotiate some debts down.

This is not a do it yourself project and a person should not even have started as Administrator without a lawyer.
