is the will of a deceased person public domain? and how would I get a copy?

Wills are usually public documents. If you know the name, approximate date of death and Surrogate's office where it was probated you can go there and see it or, for a small fee, have the Surrogate send you a copy.

After the will is submitted to Probate ( at least 10 days after the death) it is a public document. You can obtain a copy of it at the Surrogate's Office
