Will I be Responsible for my Fiance's Debts?

My fiance, through an extensive illness, has a huge amount of debt, mostly medical bills. If we get married, will I be responsible in any way for his debts. I have a comfortable ''nest egg'' put away, and can't afford to endanger it in any way. Can we sign something beforehand that would absolve me from his debts?

I know of no principle of law which would make you responsible for the pre-marital debts of your intended spouse. Medical or otherwise.
