Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Will from another state

I currently live in Georgia. Before living in Georgia, I lived in Illinois. I have a valid will that was written in Illinois. Do I need to get a new will written in Georgia, or is the Illinois one still valid?

The will is probably valid although no one can tell for sure without taking a look at it. Even if it is, you might want to consider doing a new one because GA now has what are called "self-proving wills" which does away with the expense of tracking down the witnesses to your original will when you pass away. Consult with a local attorney for a fuller explanation.

One could not comment on whether a will is "valid" without seeing it. If the document is executed properly, it is "probably" valid here - but again, one could not say without looking at the document. Even if it is valid, you should see a Georgia attorney to put some local Georgia language into the will to make the administration process go smoothly.
