Legal Question in Business Law in Hawaii
Do Not ''Trust'' Your Wedding Coordinator
I was the Matron of Honor for my cousin. Her wedding was held in Hawaii. It was chaos! The coordinator/caterer did not delivery the correct amount of tables and chairs for the guest to sit. My cousin and I worked on the seating chart to ensure that all the guest would be comfortable with the table guests. As a result, the guests sat anywhere and we were not able to use her ''theme'' for each table. In addition, the venue was not accomodated for the Bride. The Security of the property did not recieve a valid permit to have any event on the grounds. So, the caterer and guests moved the tables and chairs from the grass to the beach. The chairs were sinking into the ground and the tables were not leveled. Thirdly, there were no beverages on sight when we arrived; my husband and a couple of guests left the reception to purchase the beverages. The food was cold and noone ate. My cousin tells me there were only verbal and email agreements. The mother of the bride would like to know what are their rights and what they can do to be compensated for the trouble they went through? (There is more to this story; this is just the tip of the iceberg). Your answers are greatly appreciated!

Re: Do Not ''Trust'' Your Wedding Coordinator
An email agreement is a writing, so maybe there is hope for your cousin (although she used poor judgment in not obtaining a written agreement). Assuming the contract has no connection to California, she should contact a lawyer there in Hawaii.
