Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Hawaii

Club membership discrimination

I have been denied membership in a local chapter of the Armed Forces Motorcycle Club. The chapter advertises that all veterans and military retiress are welcome to join. I am a retiree with an honorable discharge and so I am elibible. However, I was told that I would not be allowed to join because I ride a Japanese built motorcycle and not an American built motorcycle. I complained because I am a military veteran/retiree and have been denied membership to a military/veterans motorcycle club. Can I force the issue and demand admitance to the club or does this motorcycle club organized for veterans have the right to deny this veteran membership?

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Club membership discrimination

The discrimination appears to be against the motorcycle not against you.

Japanese motorcycles or, for that matter, any motorcycle would not be a group protected by discrimination laws.

Rent an American cycle and try to join. That would be proof that you, personally, are not being discriminated against.

If the group then denies you entry, then you will know something else is afoot.
